How I've missed you so!

I've been so extremely busy. I just finished with WONDERLAND, which I costumed and performed in, and I also have a new job, which is basically full time, plus since Wonderland went up, I've been getting a bunch of work!

I'm also writing a new album, and a new website is being planned to go along with that!

Plus, I'm flying out to volunteer for the Spoutwood Farms Fairie Festival, which involves a lot of planning and a sweet costume!

I miss doing tutorials, and I definitely miss your feedback.
But I am so freaking busy, fae!

Hey, fae!
I know, I know, I've been SRSLY!!11101 slacking on the tutorials front. I'm so very sorry. My life is currently being consumed by an original variety production of Alice in Wonderland [I am costuming and singing/speaking the part of Alice, as well as helping in any other way I can. I contributed a song off of my album, soliloquy, also.] I'm also performing quite a bit around Detroit. BUSY KATE IS BUSY.

Please forgive me, I will do tutorials when I can.
But, if you could do me a massive favor, I would appreciate it.

It's just regular smokey eye make-up; there are about 8 million TeenVogue/Elle/Jane/Seventeen/US WEEKLY articles on how to do smokey eyes, and just as many YouTube videos. It's not fun, there's no colour, the shape isn't interesting- the only reason people are up in arms about it is because it's on a dude.

Hi!

I am back!
I swear to the make-up gods, I am back.

Right now, I'm in North Carolina, visiting my mother, regaining a bit of sanity before I go back to school and try to find a new job.

But, my New Year's resolutions are as such.

1. Grow my hair out to Marilyn Monroe length and style it as such.
2. Write a song every day and post it on my blog. [already failed that a bit.]
3. Actually do tutorials regularly.

So, to work on that 3rd resolution, I've decided to take a poll! I want to do a make-up series to get back into the swing of making tutorials, so here are your choices.

Eyebrow Psychology

I've decided to grow my eyebrows back.
Zac says this is because there is something going on it my life.

It is usually a telltale sign that something is up with me, along with dying my hair.
I started shaving off my eyebrows for several reasons.

1. I hate my natural eyebrows. They are hard to take care of.
2. Toria Jane Royle. She plucked hers off and drew them back on. One day she drew a swirl in front a la Miss Amanda Palmer, and I thought that was the bees knees.
3. Amanda Palmer. She is eyebrow queen.

The first time I shaved my eyebrows was at the beginning of my issues with depression/borderline personality disorder. I grew them back for Faire, then quit Faire at the height of my depression and shaved them off again.

I started growing them back around rocky stuff with Zac and I, a few months later during my junior year, then shaved them off again around the same time I shaved my head, for obvious 'mother-in-hospital-can't-

control-my-life' reasons.

Instead of doing something with my eyebrows during the Kieran/Zac catastrophe May 2007, I bleached my hair. The eyebrows started to make an appearance in fall [after two hair colour changes], during the Renaissance Faire and my relationship with Kieran.

They stayed for a while, in various forms, until Spring 2008, when things with Ben & I started getting particularly ridiculous. I shaved them off before prom.

And then I shaved my head again when Ben broke it off with me.

Now, I am pretty settled. I don't have a boyfriend, but that's ok, I'm just having fun and being an 18 year old kid. I'm not too worried about anything besides finding money to move back to PA.

And because of my need to roll out of bed in the morning with complete facial features, I am growing the eyebrows back.

The Infamous Bettie Page

Bettie Page died, at age 85.

I know she wasn't young, and she lived a full life. I know it was only a matter of time until I saw this on the front page of some news site.

But it's still...shocking. It still hurts.
It's the end of an era, kind of.

Bettie will forever be immortalized in her pin-up photos, but it was nice to know she was still out there, being unique and spectacularly singular.

Le sigh.

Fae on Film: Filth and Wisdom

What? A movie review?
I know, I just can't keep my head on straight. Tutorials will be back soon, I promise!

So, I just watched this movie, Filth and Wisdom.
It was directed, produced, and written by Madonna.
Yeah, THAT Madonna.

Naturally, I didn't expect much. I mean, she's Madonna. Whilst awesome and hot, Madonna is not very well known for her artistic pursuits outside of music in a good way. She's not really known for her music in a good way, actually. [Except by the gays.] It's not fabulously directed. The dialogue is mediocre and sometimes painful or awkward. But the real reason I picked up the movie?

IT STARS EUGENE HUTZ.
[The lead singer from Gogol Bordello.]
AHM, YES.

Well, I loved him in it. I think he did a great job. This is probably because I am in love with him and his fabulous gypsy accent. And his mustache. Eugene's mustache is the true star of this movie.

So, what is about, you ask?

From what I could tell, it's about a guy [Eugene Hutz] who likes to lie in dry bathtubs and narrate his life, but also happens to be in a gypsy punk band [OH, HOW ORIGINAL, MADONNA.] He lives with two hot ladies; a ballet dancer who he convinces to become a stripper [Holly Weston], and a pill-nicking pharmacy tech who has a real thing for starving African children [Vicky McClure.] They live above a blind literature professor [Richard Grant,] who was once a poet, has crazy old professor hair, and will not learn how to read braille for some reason. They are all miserable in some way. Life happens.

Did I mention that the guy happens to be a dominatrix?

All in all, I liked the movie. This mainly because it had four of my favorite things in it.

1. Stripping
2. Ridiculous fetish scenes
3. EUGENE HUTZ
4. Eugene Hutz's mustache

I'd say it gets a 3 out of 5.

Cute.

cute- adj.

1.	attractive, esp. in a dainty way; pleasingly pretty: a cute child; a cute little apartment.

2.	affectedly or mincingly pretty or clever; precious: The child has acquired some intolerably cute mannerisms.

[Ironically, the word cute was originally a synonym for 'cunning'.]

I have been plagued by this word my entire life.

Since I was about 9, I stopped wanting to be cute. However, my button nose and pixie-like demeanor have rendered this goal impossible- the fact I barely ever wear my hair longer than 3 inches and am below average height hasn't helped, either. [Or the fact that I talk about faeries and want to be a Disney princess. Dammit.] This word became particularly beleaguering when I wanted to get boys to like me in early highschool- I had a few friends who far surpassed me in sexiness and I was the 'cute' one. The little sister. Except for a few bizarre events when I was too young to be flattered, I was rarely hit on. The boyfriend I did have talked about how he wished I had bigger boobs [They're 32C, now, jackass! MWAHAHAHAHA!]

I always kind of had the 'Lolita' thing going for me, I guess, and have managed to use it to my advantage. But along with being 'cute' a d 'young' comes the idea of being inexperienced, and such is not so true. I think because of this stigma I became a bit more sex-crazed than I thought I would be, determined to let the ladies and gentlemen I was interested in that I was not all rainbows and glitter. I bite. Hard.

Aside from romantically, the 'cute' factor also enabled me with the power to have no one EVER take me seriously. I could say blatantly horrible things to people and it would always be 'Oh my god, you're so FUNNY, I love you.'

No, no, I'm not being funny. I think you're slutty and awful.
'YOU'RE SO CUTE!!!!!'

I realize now that this is an amazing weapon, but at the time it was just annoying. Some of this curse, I realize, is my age- in my field of work, being 18 is a duel-edged blade. Whilst I am lucky to be in this business at such a young age and have time to be creative and hone my craft as a performance artist, my current credentials are also overlooked or never even mentioned because of the number people attach to me. [I've been working in theatre professionally for 4 years- as a costumer, actress, and singer.]

There are worse things that could be attached to me. I could be 'obnoxious' or 'over-bearing' or 'pretentious'. 'Cute' is not a horrible thing to be called. It's flattering most of the time.

But sometimes, it would be nice to be 'pretty' or 'beautiful' or 'sexy.' Instead of being the diminutive damsel, it would be nice to be the vamp, the lady in red, the burlesque bombshell.

Ah, well.
C'est la vie.

The make-up gods heard my pleas for a make-up based reality TV show. THEY HEARD THEM AND THEY SAID, "AYE, KATHERINE, WE SHALL GRANT YOUR WISHES. WE KNOW YOU MUST GET FAMOUS SOMEHOW."

So.
It's on Lifetime. [Which is HILARIOUS.]
I bought a 'season pass' on iTunes.
I watched the first episode.
I could totally win.
[If anyone sees anything about how to apply to be on the next season, you need to email me IMMEDIATELY, ok? I need my fae on HYPER-WATCH.]

I could actually make it on the show.
I'm just as good [if not better] than all of those make-up artists. I'm so psyched out right now.
I NEED TO BE ON THIS SHOW.
I am destined for it.
I will even tell the producers straight up that I can start drama if they need it. I am not afraid to act my way into reality TV show stardom. I know most of it is scripted, anyway. I can also easily fit the mold of the lovable alternative girl. I can do this. I can TOTALLY do this.

Hey, fae!

My career as an alt model is officially in the works- I just got accepted to God's Girls!
[For those of you unaware of God's Girls, it's a site like Suicide Girls, but with a WAY better contract.]
I'm crazy excited to start working with them, it's such an honor!

Also, I'm contemplating getting half-sleeve tattoos, but don't know what to get yet. Obviously, the half-sleeves will not be my first tattoos, but I want to start designing now. Any ideas for elements of them? I want something fun, colourful, and representative of all that I do.

I plan to get a little heart on my left hand for my first tattoo, over a beauty mark I have. It's going to be miniscule, perfect for a first tattoo.

An Actual, Serious Call for Help.

Hey, everybody.

I got in a car accident. I was driving on the freeway and a truck came out of nowhere, and I swerved and lost control of the car. I ended up hitting another car. The truck was nowhere to be seen, OF COURSE, and the other driver didn't see it. Therefore, I am at fault.

I'm fine, car is damaged, but driveable [barely]. If we can't fix it, I'm going to have to get a new car. :(

I got a ticket and I'm going to court to fight it and get it reduced, but I still have to pay a huge fine that, as usual, I can't afford, because my schedule permits only weird, scarce hours at work and I just wasted a ton of money on the miserable monetary experience that was FaerieCon.

If you guys could donate ANYTHING, it would be much appreciated. I'm not going to post a donate button here, I don't want to seem like I'm begging, but there is one on my userinfo page, as well as on the homepage of the elfSTRUCK! website.

I really need your help.
