Boston, Beauty, and Bath Bombs

WARNING: This post contains self-indulgent fluff.
Hey, fae.
I went into Boston today to wander Newbury St. with my brother, who dutifully sat outside whilst I perused girly stores like Betsey Johnson, LUSH, and MAC.
Speaking of which, I had some startling realizations today, the main one being 'you get what you pay for'.
I am a cheapskate. I love bargains, I've shoplifted things I didn't feel like paying for [sorry, Walmart and Hot Topic], I buy a good percentage of my clothes either on sale or via the Salvation Army. I don't like spending money. EVER. I have [stupidly] spoken out against MAC make-up for being vaguely high priced and balk at designer clothing. But today, my opinion of things changed.
My brother and I were talking about apartments in the city. I really love Boston and I love the idea of not having to have a car even more, plus living near my brother and his wife would be amazing. The problem is, Boston is quite expensive. Apartments start around the 800-900 range, and those are tiny tiny places! As we were talking, it kind of came up in the conversation that you have to make some sacrifices to live where you want, this case the sacrifice being a bit of money. Boston is amazing, it's beyond worth it! [Just being in the city around all those people made me want to run up to everyone and tell them that they were beautiful.]
And, amazingly, I realized this could apply to other things! [WHAT WHAT, MAD SKILLZ RIGHT THURR]
You get what you pay for, man!
This is how I justify spending $60 on skincare products today. I've become obsessed with taking care of my skin lately, because I've had some free time on my hands [I know, I should be doing tutorials with that free time, but I am massively unable to do anything creative besides draw on my eyebrows a la Amanda Palmer]. I went into the uber-amazing fresh organic cosmetic store, LUSH, for the first time with the intent to buy something. I ended up with far more than I had planned, but also a goodie bag of free stuff [including a bath bomb, a clay mask, and some yummy citrus bar soap], and this amazing feeling of pride that I didn't waste money on cheap products that were bad for my skin or the environment. [P.S. My mother read somewhere that those plastic microbeads in some facial scrubs kill marine life. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU USE ON YO' FACE!]
I almost splurged on some MAC makeup, but managed to scurry out of the store before blowing the rest of my graduation money on fancy coloured liquid liner. MAC is a great company, I feel bad for dissing them. The MAC stores I've been in are all classy environments, with great personnel and good products to offer. I would love to work for MAC someday, either in one of their stores or somewhere higher up. I am a fledgling MAC addict, and I'm sure the second I manage to get my hands on more than just a trial sample of pigment, I will never look back. I'm sorry for hating on you, MAC cosmetics! Forgive and endorse me! [The tests of those eyeliners I did on my hands still won't come off!]
So, I've decided to stop feeling bad about spending money on good products, or good clothes, or good anything, because you really do get what you pay for! Most things are priced the way they are for a reason, and I finally learned that.
Now, I just need to get a job to support my new philosophy.
Love,
Kate

P.S. I'll totally review the LUSH products I got today after I see how they work. They smell amazing, at least!
